What goes better with a Whopper than a cold Coke? Apparently a Heineken. Burger King is hoping this new brand team can gain some market share on the currently dominating fast food giant McDonald’s. McDonald’s currently has over 3600 fast food restaurants in Japan compared to just a handful from the fugacious Burger King. The BK Broiler left the Japanese fast food game in 1971 and returned in 1993 after a 22 year hiatus, only to leave again in 2001. After returning in 2007 they have new strategy, and with recent success of the “angry” burger earlier this year, time will tell if the King can capitalize. Oh, and Japan has a zero tolerance drinking and driving law. Let’s see how well this merger bodes for the two companies looking to gain a foothold in a busy market.
